Haemoabdomen or haemoperitoneum is seen frequently in small animal practice, almost exclusively in dogs. It is defined as the accumulation of blood within the peritoneal cavity (and sometimes retroperitoneal space). It can be divided into traumatic (blunt v. penetrating), spontaneous, or iatrogenic.
