In the below video, Dr Gemma Spinoglio from our internal medicine team discusses the use of abdominal ultrasounds at VSS.
Veterinary Specialist Services performs thousands of diagnostic ultrasounds each year. At VSS we pride ourselves on being able to provide this service with minimal stress to our patients while obtaining high quality imaging results. For this reason, you may be advised to withhold food from your pet for a period of time prior to your visit. Fasting allows us to obtain better images in the abdomen and makes it safer to give sedation, when required. The procedure is not invasive and is not painful for your pet. If no other procedures are performed, and your pet’s condition is stable enough, they may be able to be discharged the same day as their ultrasound. Results are most often discussed with you shortly after the procedure finishes or at the time of discharge.
