BVSc, MRCVS, Cert SAO, MANZCVS, FANZCVS, CMAVA, Memb AO

Specialist Small Animal Surgeon

Philip Moses graduated from the University of Sydney in 1986 and initially worked in cattle practice in western NSW, followed by mixed practices. His experiences eventually led him to shift away from large animal practice and move to the UK in 1990, where he began his journey towards small animal surgical specialization.

In 1994, Philip earned his Certificate in Small Animal Orthopaedics from the Royal College and gained experience in referral practice before returning to Australia in 1996. He then started his residency in small animal surgery in Brisbane, completing his MANZCVS in 1998. He went on to work at the University of Sydney as Senior Registrar and later as Head of Surgery in 2000. In 2001, he spent time as a visiting scholar at the University of Florida before returning to Brisbane as a founding partner of Veterinary Specialist Services.

Philip achieved his FANZCVS in Small Animal Surgery and became a registered Specialist in 2003. He also served as an Adjunct Professor with the University of Queensland. His surgical interests were diverse, ranging from brachycephalic airway syndrome to spinal surgery, particularly in brachycephalic dogs, as well as soft tissue, neurological, and orthopedic surgery. Philip's dedication to veterinary science extended to research projects with Westmead Children's Hospital in Sydney and the University of Queensland. He was widely published in Veterinary Journals and Textbooks and presented at numerous conferences both in Australia and internationally.

As a Chartered Member of the AVA and an elected Member of AO, Philip held several prominent positions, including President of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Surgeons from 2010-2014 and Councillor of the College. He was also one of two elected members of the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Queensland since 2009.

Philip had a deep passion for Australian marsupials and pioneered many surgical techniques for koalas and kangaroos. In recognition of his work, he was awarded the Inaugural Conservation Award by Australia Zoo in 2014. Additionally, he was the Mark S. Bloomberg Lecturer at the 2016 NAVC Conference in Florida.

Beyond his professional life, Philip was dedicated to improving animal care in Southeast Asia, lecturing widely in the region. He was also an avid collector of Cadillac motor cars and served as President of the Cadillac La Salle Club of Queensland.

Philip is the proud father of six children, was an owner of Pugs, Dachshunds, and Burmese cats, and a devoted supporter of the Queensland Reds and the Wallabies.

Dr. Philip Moses has since passed away, but his legacy will forever remain a vital part of Veterinary Specialist Services. His contributions to veterinary science and his commitment to animal care continue to inspire and guide the work we do.
